Description

Crossing The T – AO003

Perfected by British Admiral Horatio Nelson, the ‘Crossing the T’ attack begins with a line of war ships crossing in front of the enemy vessels to resemble the shape of the letter ‘T’. As they bring their guns to bare, they fire the individual guns as the target passes into its range.  As the vast majority of a ships of that era’s guns were side mounted, it meant the engaged enemy could only reply with a small number of front mounted weapons. Even if that enemy was to turn to into the threat, the setup of this definitive naval tactic was to bring multiple ships into a line so the targeted enemy was attacked relentlessly by all ships in the armada. The process basically rewarded the attacker with the time to aim and to use their weapons accurately while restricting the enemy to the use of their smallest and least effective guns. This would heavily damage these ships sail and leave them vulnerable to further destruction and their eventual sinking.

This attack was used in naval tactics until the eventual development of ‘Turreted’ guns, giving the largest and most effective navy guns the ability to not only rotate and track horizontal targets, but elevate the barrel for target range accuracy.

Who is the artist?

Peter Jantke is an artist living in South East Queensland Australia. Together with his wife Loletta, they have developed an art based business selling his artworks and using his images to produce a number of commercial products. For further information on Peter, Loletta and their business please follow this link to the about us page.

What is meant by ‘Petes Art’?

Peter produces two kinds of images – his own work and the commercial artwork needed for the business. The difference between the two is simple. His choice of subjects and style and the subjects and styles required to produce commercially diverse and generally appealing products. ‘Pete’s Art’ is the work he undertakes for his own pleasure and personal artistic development.

What mediums are the originals done in?

Peter paints in oils, pastels, pencils and using digital applications like Adobe Photoshop. All images, including the digital images are a traditional style using brush, pastel blocks and airbrushes.

Can I find out more about the individual paintings?

Sure. Every listing has a general description and some also have video commentaries of the artist talking about the image, however if you want to know more please use the ‘Enquiry’ tab.

Can the originals be sent overseas?

Yes, in fact a large proportion of the original artworks goes to overseas buyers. We are used to freighting to non-Australian destinations.

If I purchase a painting, do I own the copyright to reproduce the image?

No. The sale of the original artwork does not include the copyright to reproduce unless otherwise agreed. The business will produce no greater than 500 limited edition prints of many of the titles and this is the condition of sale. Jantke Art Studio owns the copyright on all images produced and the sale of the original artwork and the copyright for commercial reproduction are two separate entities. Both can be negotiated and either sold separately.

Do the originals come fully framed?

Generally, no they don’t although there are a few that have them. This is listed on the description pages. For the purpose of website display, most of the images are framed digitally.
